Rural Corridor Safety and Capacity Predictive Modeling on US 63 in Central Missouri

Presenter: Rick Bennett, WSP

Description: The US 63 corridor project was scoped as a NEPA reevaluation project that included a Traffic Needs Assessment. The proposed corridor project is a 47-mile rural corridor spanning from Westphalia to Rolla, MO; the project explored several alternatives that included shared four lane and divided four lane expressway type roadways. While the study looked at traditional traffic capacity and historic safety review, being a rural corridor, the team focused on predictive crash modeling following the Highway Safety Manual process and the related benefit-cost analysis to determine the preferred option from a safety perspective. Mr. Bennett will present a summary of the predictive traffic analysis approach and the results of this project.
