City Connections: Louisiana Calm Street and 21st Street Bikeway
Presented By: Cindi Mense (Trailnet CEO), Bryce Monser (Trailnet Community Planning Manager), & Scott Ogilvie, AICP (St. Louis Program Manager, Complete Streets)
The Louisiana Calm Street and 21st Street Bikeway provided two approaches to multi-modal connections. The Louisiana Calm Street Project was the City of St. Louis’ first corridor level traffic calming project using a suite of design elements to calm vehicular traffic and increase livability in a neighborhood context. The 21st Street bikeway is a multi-use trail built as a component of the I-64 / Jefferson interchange project to create a protected bikeway connection across I-64 and the rail corridor, connecting neighborhoods to downtown across infrastructure barriers, and forming one element of an expanding greenway network .
